Mass Effect 3 and the Indoctrination Theory

Bioware’s Mass Effect franchise has garnered thousands of fans and sold millions of copies. Its latest game, Mass Effect 3, was easily the most anticipated game of the year, is easily the most dynamic and most engrossing one in the series. It also became one of the most hated recently because of its baffling ending which had fans flipping tables and flipping birds all throughout the world

But bioware fans are gamers, TRUE gamers and not just the hipster plague spreading around (more on that on future posts). Their passion for the game were not deterred in any way. That is probably why they had come up with an explanation of their own, or rather a theory about the ending. They called it the Indoctrination theory
I won’t go explaining it because I haven’t fully explored it myself. I believe people should go and look it up and think about it themselves. Also, I’m a lazy SOB to explain it LOL. With that in mind I want to state that this post isn’t an explanation of the Indoctrination theory but why its getting so much recognition
I can understand why the Indoctrination theory would be so popular. First thing about it is that it follows the feel of ME3. The strange thing I noticed about ME3 was how meta and trippy it was. Dream sequences, all the impossibilities that happened and creepy creepy kids. It is so far from ME1 and 2 where everything is straight forward. Got an enemy, kill the enemy, go home. That’s not the case with ME3. You go on these missions and in each mission you get your victory or you bruise your ego. Either way you are treated with clips of Shepard’s internal struggle and how he deals with his own demons
One of those impossibilities mentioned above is extra scene in the RED ending. Shepard’s body taking in air on a pile of rubble almost seems ludicrous. I mean, the rubble did not look like any part of the Citadel but more like rubble from London. I find it difficult to believe that Shepard’s ass got away from the Citadel before it explodes, went through the Earth’s atmosphere, landed on the planet and lived! That shit crazy, man!
Then there is also the matter of the indoctrination symptoms. If you would check your Codex there is an entry there regarding indoctrination and its characteristics. If you can sit through the monotonous voice of whoever that dude is you’ll find that a lot of chars of indoctrination can be seen on Shepard as you play the game. Some can be seen as early as the tutorial and some can be seen during your “fight” with the Illusive Man
Whether you believe in the Indoctrination theory or not, on thing remains clear, fans will keep guessing and thinking about what the ending actually meant until Bioware releases the extended ending.
